1. Define civil society. Discuss the important elements and role of civil society organisations in South Asia.

In South Asia, civil society organizations (CSOs) play a critical role in various aspects of development, democracy, and governance. Below are the important elements and roles they play:
Advocacy and Policy Influence: CSOs are active advocates for policy changes on issues like human rights, environmental conservation, education, healthcare, gender equality, and social justice. They help shape policy discourses and influence policymakers by providing alternative perspectives and voicing the concerns of marginalized communities.
Service Delivery: Many CSOs in South Asia are involved in providing essential services to marginalized and underserved communities. These include education, health, sanitation, housing, and livelihood services, often reaching areas where government initiatives have limited reach.
