Transportation via Blood: Oxyhemoglobin is carried through arteries from the lungs to various tissues and organs throughout the body.
Oxygen Release: At the tissues, where oxygen is needed, oxyhemoglobin releases oxygen molecules due to a decrease in oxygen concentration or an increase in carbon dioxide concentration. This process is facilitated by factors such as temperature, pH, and the presence of organic phosphates like 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate (BPG).
Cellular Respiration: Oxygen diffuses from the bloodstream into cells, where it is used in cellular respiration to produce energy (ATP) through the oxidation of glucose or other organic molecules.
Carbon Dioxide Transport: As cells utilize oxygen, they produce carbon dioxide as a waste product. Carbon dioxide diffuses into the bloodstream and is transported back to the lungs, where it is exhaled from the body.
