IGNOU Offers Online Hindi Awareness course for Foreign Nationals The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is preparing to offer a 3 month duration Online Basic Hindi Awareness course for Foreign Nationals in partnership with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and Central Hindi Directorate (CHD).
In the presence of Professor Nageshwar Rao, VC IGNOU, and Kumar Tuhin, Director General ICCR, and other key officials of ICCR, CHD, and IGNOU a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed regarding to the course.
IGNOU in an official statement stated A tripartite agreement is signed among Dr Alok Chaube, Registrar (Admin), IGNOU, Shri Rajeev Kumar, Deputy Director General (DDG) and Chief Technology and Information Officer (CTIO), ICCR, and Ms. Madhu Sandlesh, Deputy Director, Central Hindi Directorate.
The Online Hindi Awareness program to commence from November 16, 2022. IGNOU has received a total of 226 applications for this program from nine countries including Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Iran, China, Vietnam, Mauritius, Taiwan, and Romania.
ICCR while making the official statement mentioned, “Hindi is the third most spoken language in the world. Hindi, one of India’s official languages, is also the most spoken language in India.” The Indian Council for Cultural Relations, as part of its mandate of furthering Indian culture abroad, is already engaged in the promotion of the Hindi language, it added.
IGNOU Offers Online Hindi Awareness course for Foreign Nationals The ICCR goes on to say that it is deputising Hindi teachers and professors to India Culture Centers and ICCR Hindi chairs established in universities around the globe. The council concludes by stating that ICCR scholarships are also an important step toward the promotion of the Hindi language abroad.
